The Kingdom of Keshanar is a vibrant, detailed imagining of what ancient Egypt might have been like in a world where the magic, the monsters, and the gods were real. This October, D&D 5e fans can back the Kingdom of Keshanar Kickstarter tabletop RPG crowdsource funding campaign via a variety of pledge tiers, gaining access to hardcover books, pdfs, maps, music, dice, magic item cards, tokens, DM screens, hand-cast metal coins, and more. All tiers come with access to an interactive 3D model of Keshanar City, where players can explore the city in or outside of game time, visiting temples, monuments, and shops to their hearts’ content.
All this stems from CEO of Orthane Productions CEO Dave Hadden and his lifelong fascination with ancient Egypt. When prompted, the setting creator said, “The empire reigned for about three thousand years, and it was easily one of the most advanced ancient civilizations of all time. It would be easier to list the things ancient Egyptians didn’t invent than the things they did. But most of all, ancient Egyptian lore and mythology—the gods, the magic, the monsters—is all ridiculously cool, and not nearly enough people know about it. That’s why we created Keshanar—to expose people to another idea of what magic and adventure could be.”
“We care about fun and quality, and we’ve even got a PhD Egyptologist on board to make sure we bring you the most faithful world we could possibly create,” commented Lore Master Andrew Fields, linguist and contributing writer. Our Storymancer, Leo Andrade, added, “Working on Keshanar and the world of Orthane is very exciting. The connection to ancient Egypt, and the care that goes into the research and worldbuilding, has given Keshanar strong historical and mythical roots beyond just aesthetics, which not many settings have. It’s been super fun twisting those into new shapes and adding some new flavors and colors that will appeal to seasoned D&D players and newcomers alike.”
